E. Chambard-Bois, hommage au peintre paysagiste, Musee Bossuet, Meaux

This exhibition is a retrospective of the life and work of Emile Chambard Bois a painter and vocalist. Chambard Bois did not achieve wide notoriety in his life time. His paintings in large part could hardly be considered as masterpieces, though there are examples of quiet brilliance amongst those on display.

His strength appears to be in representing in a near abstracted form the differing regions of France in which he lived. Observing the paintings the viewer can tell almost immediately which region is presented....., the lighting, chromatic power and subject matter are identifiable, this is a rare skill not matched by his immediate precedents the Impressionists. It is also possible to define what was his favourite place, the light he loved and the surroundings that most comforted him.

The exhibited also contains a biographical section that explains his family life, as well as his life long commitment to painting. Chambard Bois' wife was also an accomplished amatuer artist, several of her pastel portraites are included in the exhibition.

To anyone that has a mind to see more of French art than what is at the Louvre, Orangerie or the Orsay, I'd recommend this small exhibition if you are travelling through Meaux.
